The city of Rome hosts an array of annual events making it easy for visitors to participate in a real Roman festivity whether it be traditional, religious, musical, or just for fun. Browse the list below for the events listed during your visit to Rome.

JANUARY

New Year's Day
Piazza del Popolo breaks in the New Year with a celebration fit for the entire family. A variety of fun activities come to life with clowns, actors, and lots of other characters loved by kids!

Blessing of the Animals
If you're an animal lover, come to Piazza Vittorio (normally the third Sunday of the month) to participate in a very special Roman, and worldwide, annual event; the Blessing of the Animals, where people bring their animals, big and small, to the piazza for a special blessing.

Mo'ed di Piombo
Rome's Jewish Temple is illuminated on the Roman Hebrew holiday of Mo'ed di Piombo. The event , which took place in 1793 AD (5553 Hebrew calendar) is remembered with morning and afternoon prayers and a homily by the Rabbi who talks about the meaning of the event.

FEBRUARY

Rome's Independent Film Festival
This film festival is celebrated in February with film screenings shown at the Ripa Hotel, Cinema Roma, and Cinema Pasquino by artists from different countries who come to show their independent films.

MARCH

Euro chocolate Festival
Chocolate lovers must make it a must to participate at the Euro chocolate Festival. A cascade of thousands of chocolate eggs dominates this event on the elegant staircase of the Spanish Steps with stands and exhibitions of interesting and tasty chocolate delights set up for your pleasure.

Rome Marathon
The Rome Marathon takes off in March leading the runners around scenic Rome. The event includes an array of other activities including music and events all taking place around the city during the race. If your not fit to run just come and watch!

Good Friday Procession
A popular religious event in March, and sometimes April, is Rome's Good Friday Procession at Easter. This religious event is highlighted with the procession and prayer of the Via Crucis (Station of the Cross),a re-enactment of the 14 stations of the cross after the death of Jesus and the path which carried His body to the tomb, starting at the Colosseum and leading up to and finishing at Mount Palatino.

APRIL

Painters in Via Margutta
For lovers of art, come to the Painters in Via Margutta (also in November) where 100 fortunate artists are selected from numerous applicants, to participate in the display and selling of their artwork along Via Margutta, a popular area well known for local painters.

MAY

May Day Musical
May kicks off with the May Day Musical celebrating the start of the nearby summer. Stroll into Piazza San Giovanni for this a world class music festival on the first day of May and enjoy the music!

Rome Tennis Masters Series
Get your ticket early to the Rome Tennis Masters Series held at the Foro Italico tennis park. Enjoy watching more than 100 players from all over the world compete for prizes in this fast paced tennis event in May.

Race for the Cure
Put your running shoes on for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure mini marathon. This fund raising event is designed to raise awareness of breast cancer with profits going to the cause. The marathon starts and finishes at the Ancient Baths of Caracalla. An optional two-kilometre scenic walk through Rome is also available for those who want to participate but aren't in the best shape for the entire run. Sign up now!



JUNE

Dolce Vita Jazz Festival
Take in some sweet jazz at the Dolce Vita Jazz Festival where numerous jazz artists unite to share their music with shows at Rome's Palma Club and the Auditorium Park of Music. This event occasionally takes place in May.


Foto-Graphia
In to photography? Check out Foto-Graphia where displays of contemporary photography are set up throughout the city during the month of June. So have a walk around and enjoy the pictures!

JULY

Fashion Show at Trinitā dei Monti
Get an early peek at the latest and upcoming fall fashions by famous designers when international top models stroll down the staircase of the Spanish steps at the Fashion Show at Trinitā dei Monti. Unless you have an invitation, it's standing room only.

Castel Sant'Angelo Book Fair
The annual book festival, Castel Sant'Angelo Book Fair, continues to increase in popularity every year. The lovely gardens of Castel Sant Angelo hosts this educational event during the month of July offering workshops and games, story telling for children, music and more. The fair is attended by noted Italian publishers, writers, and popular specialty bookshops.

Festa de' Noantri
A favourite event among the local Romans is the long dated Festa de' Noantri.
This celebration takes place in the latter part of July on the first Saturday following the Festa of the Madonna del Carmelo.
Set in the fashionable Trastevere quarters this block party includes an array of stands selling everything from food to garments and everything in between.

SUMMER EVENTS (June, July, August)

Estate Romana (Summer Roman )Festival
All summer long from June 21st to September 21st, this great summer festival offers events which take place all throughout Rome. Music, films, and fun for the entire family!

Jazz and image Summer Jazz Festival
From June through July, check out Villa Celimontana, for the jazz festival 'Jazz and Image', where sounds of traditional and modern music come together played by variety of well-known music artists giving sounds of jazz, pop, gospel, and blues.

Festival of Latin-American Music & Culture
Head off to the Hippodrome area for this Latin- American cultural festival during June, July and August where some of the greatest musicians and singers from Latin America come to perform. Other artists add their color to the festivities with alternative music, with food and drink also available in around the grounds.

Festa de'Noantri
This feast is one of the oldest and most traditional celebrations in Rome and happens in the latter part of July, in the Roman quarters Trastevere, on the first Saturday following the Festa of the Madonna del Carmelo. A block party where stands appear on every corner selling all kinds of novelties and food and drink too!

Gay Village
You don't have to be gay to enjoy this festival which takes place from late June through August, in the Testaccio area. Concerts, theater and food for all. Let's all live togehter in harmony, which is the hteme and aim of this event.

Nights of Cinema
A movie buff? Come to Piazza Vittorio for starting in June and lasting all summer long. Enjoy 2 film showings a night with a variety of stands for refreshments with a selection of ethnic foods if you're hungry.

New Opera Festival of Rome
This festival takes places in the courtyard of the basilica of San Clemente at the Colosseum. Enjoy the sounds of classical music on a warm summer evenings from July through August with shows in collaboration with internationally famous music academies.

Rome meets the world
A great music event where artists and groups from all nations join together all summer long from June through August to perform in one of Rome's most beautiful parks. The aim of this event is to relay a message of peace amongst different cultures and nations, and harmonious living regardless of race and religion.

SEPTEMBER

International Urban Theatre Festival
This annual event aims to bring back some of the excitement of drama and theater lost in today's modern Rome. All performances take place outdoors and are shown in various parts of the city. Take a deep breath of real Roman atmosphere!

Notte Bianca (White Night)
This annual event takes place every September when Rome stays alive all night long! Shops, restaurants, bars and others join together on this occasion to give those who participate fun for the entire day and night!!

Roma Europa Festival
Held every September, this event offers an array of music, dance and theater events located in different spots around Rome for autumn holiday fun.

OCTOBER

Great Autumn Antique Market
the largest antique market in Lazio takes place every year in OCTOBER. This annual market is held at the Autodrome di Vallelunga, approx. 18 kilometers from Rome where shoppers and antique lovers can find special period pieces and other Roman memorabilia.

Rome Jazz Festival

Enjoy the sweet sound of Jazz during October and part of November when international jazz artists get together for performances at the Parco della Musica, music park.

Celebration of St. Francis
Rome celebrates its patron saint on October every year with events, stands and much more for the entire family.

NOVEMBER

Painters in Via Margutta (in April too)
Once again the bi-annual Painters in Via Margutta repeats itself when100 selected artists display and sell their creations along Via Margutta, an area renowned for its local painters.

DECEMBER

Piazza Navona Christmas Market
Come and bring the kiddies to see Santa Claus and the manger setting, take in the Christmas decorations and enjoy an array of and Christmas activities in beautiful Piazza Navona every December before Christmas.

New Year's Eve
Come and join in the fun in Piazza del Popolo when music. fireworks, and fun combine to break in the New Year in Roman style.
